The Power of Friendship

Calling all Paper Cowgirls and Friends of Cowgirls…

Mendy Mitrani here….along Lisa Hessabi from California.
As most of you know, our sweet friend Tina has recently learned she will be fighting a tough illness, cancer. She needs all of her creative friends to send our incredible positive energy her way.

Lisa and I thought of an wonderful way to help our friend. We will be binding and embellishing a special book of prayers and good thoughts for Tina from all of her art friends. We need your help!!

Here is what we need

-One 6"x6" heavy cardstock page decorated front and back
Add whatever you wish to encourage our Tina, and make her smile.
-Leave ½ " free on left side of the front of page, and ½”on the right for the back
-All pages will be bound together by Lisa
-Pink, Aqua, Cream and Silver color scheme
-Your signature on the back--decorate to the fullest…

If you are interested, please email your name and city to Lisa and Mendy asap. Lisa will be sending you her mailing address, so that you can mail her your decorated page. Mendy will be making a sign-in page with your name and city. The front and back covers will be decorated by us.

Blogland, please help!

Hi Y'all. If I may ask a favor please?

If you are so inclined, could you please say a prayer for Tee (the other PC Coordinator). We found out last night that she has cancer. We don't know much yet, but we really would love to have your prayers and well wishes in this matter.

If you would love to leave a comment at her blog, please do so. Tina is at http://tina-wright.blogspot.com.

As for the Fall Paper Cowgirl Retreat, I must ask those that have signed up to please have patience as at this point, we are going to put the retreat on hold at this time. I will contact you individually as soon as we decide what direction we are going in.

Thanks so much you guys, we appreciate it.

Paper Cowgirl Friday

Welcome to our Paper Cowgirl Blog Party!!! Please go visit our other Cowgirls on the trail:

Joanna at Sweet Finds
Sandra at Warehouse Artchix
Chantel at Wishblooms

**our banner was made by Dale at Sea Dreams Studios**

Julie at Fab Finds

At my end of the party we are going to have a faux Beeswax project...shall start???

Gathered up the goods.. We are going to use a cabinet card as the base..I'm only doing this, because I have a couple of this one and it's really faded..the graphics on the backside are wonderful too.. Using old papers, a copy of a cowgirl, some paint and inks..

First of all I'm going to cut out my Cowgirl using a X-acto knife..I seem to get a better defined line using one of these..And did you know??you can sharpen the edge of your blade by running it over a nail file?? yep, just like GranDad used to do with his straight edge razor and leather strop..

Next, I'm inking the edges of the image..I like that look, I don't like a white edge showing on what I've cut out..There are several ways of doing this..today I've choose cat eyes that have chalk ink to use.

This gal needs some color..so using an old credit card/motel key card, I'm spreading paint around on the cabinet card..I don't like covering up the faces if I can help it..and I may want her peeking thru before it's all said and done..

Here's a dry run...I have to tell you..I'm a fly by the seat of my pants gal..I don't think things out too much, I just do it..so sometimes, what I've started with is not what I finish with..just keep this in mind as you read down...

SEE??!! whadda I tell ya..that image was too small..this one is just right..and I dug out these nifty paper clips for added intrest..
I've also stamped over the paint and did some doodles with a pencil for added intrest to the background..

Using the cc again, I'm gluing the piece down and making it smooth..

This is a STUMP..used in drawing for blending out your pencil marks and for shading..they are made of paper and you can peel away the tip if it gets too grotie..

I use it to make smudges and shadows behind my work...your finger works too..but this can get into a tighter area than your ol finger~

Now we are going to start the FAUX beeswax part...

This is MATTE gel medium..it's thick and well, matte...you can use any brand you prefer, I just had this one on the work table..it's about done for too..gotta get some more..This is going to give us that thick look that beeswax does as you build it up..but I'm going to do this in one felled swoop..

I just gobbed it on the piece and again, using the cc, I'm going ice it like a cupcake..Leaving highs and lows and thick areas and thin...but we want it to look like melted wax, not spackle on the wall..

I'm enbedding the paperclips into the gel medium too when I'm happy with the texture..

Don't wigg out..it's going to be cloudy until it's all the way dry.. She's going out to the sun for about an hour..

See?? what an hour in the sun does??? you get a tan and she gets clear~

Now we are going to make all those highs and lows show up..

Using Chalk ink, I'm going to rub it over the entire surface..Chalk ink stays 'open' longer, that is why I like to use it..you can layer the colors too..

She's a bit grungey right now..so I'm going to take a rag and wipe her down

I'm going to add one more brown tone and repeat the wipe down.. getting the colors into the low areas and wiping them off the high areas..

Can you see the texture??

Almost finished..going to add some doodle with a poster paint pen..and then sign my name.

Here we are..all finished:

Now if you leave a comment, I'll put you into a drawing for this baby~

Thanks for coming to our blog party!!

Happy Long weekend!!
