a completed art journal

I've done a bit more work on my watercolor pages journal.  You can see from the post below, just what a difference a few more details makes.  I added a cool little charm that my friend Sherri gave me to the front page.

A trip to the art museum last week provided some great images to add in. They had some wonderful postcards for sale in the giftshop.
A bit more color and some rub on's to page three.  While a little bit of text to the boy that is page four.
I put a little tag on his arm that reads, "happy".  And the text reads, "The little boy said, "I know how to paint". ".  I wanted this little book to be like a fall down in to the rabbit hole.
I added some great toile tissue on the page above.  As well as a few more layers.  The handwritten text at the top reads,  "a hunch is creativity trying to tell you something".
I put this quote in sideways, "Creativty is allowing yourself to make mistakes.  Art is knowing which ones to keep".  Love that.  Again, a great image from the museum pamphlet.
Dyan challenged us to make a page declaring that we are an artist.  Hard to do, but I did manage to sneak my name in amongst some people that are pretty well known for their art as well.
This is probably my favorite page.
Great quote, "you can't use up creativity.  the more you use the more you have." by Maya Angelou.

Rub-on's added a bit more color to these two pages.  As well as a wonderful quote, "life beats us down and crushes the soul.  Art reminds you that you have one.  -Stella Adler"

The little cup just needed something.  Underneath the cup it reads, "don't be skeerd!"...something my friend Tee always used to say.

I added another one of those great museum post cards to my blah tag, another favorite page.  This reads, "blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, don't listen to the negativity in your own head.  tell it to shut up.  seriously".  Just a reminder for myself you know.
A few more details to the last two pages and unless it just tells me otherwise, I think it is finished.  But then again, one never knows.

Water Color Paper Journal

Journal created by Cindy Mayfield

I had loads of fun taking some great classes from Dyan Reaveley's class, when she was here in Texas.  She's not only great fun, but her energy and enthusiasm for what she is creating, spill over into the class.

We created the above journal from just one sheet of water-color paper, and then did the backgrounds using her ink sprays and stencils.  I've gone back in and added stitching, Copics, and some vintage images to some pages as well.  This one will be a work in progress.

Are you doing anything fun and creative for the summer?

Showing some Class Love, Part 2

Best Friend by Cindy Mayfield, Yapping Cat Studio
One of the things that I love about taking a class, are the "after effects".  You know, when a class stretches you creatively, and is a bouncing off point for something else.
Best Friend Card by Cindy Mayfield, Yapping Cat Studio
Such is the case with the doodle cards pictured here today.  I've been taking Teresa Mc's class on-line, A Journal of Interest.  One of the prompts was a doodling prompt.  I "promptly" (sorry) feel in love in doodling with the Copics.  Ohmygosh.  Yeah, yeah, I'm like the last one to jump on THAT bandwagon, but seriously, LOADS of fun.

Layers.  So much fun to layer colors, patterns and designs.

And I just can't seem to stop creating them.  Sorta like eating potato chips.

Reminds me of being a kid and coloring.  What better way to spend an hour or two.  And bonus, I'll have a stash of cards for when I need one.  So many great classes are out there right now, so take some time for yourself, take an on-line class and stretch your creativity.  And reap the extra benefits.
